How To Preserve Magnolia Flowers?

Table of Contents

Magnolia flowers are deliciously fragrant and make beautiful bouquets or arrangements. However, if not cared for properly, the plant can easily wilt and die. To preserve these heavenly flowers, follow these simple steps.
Magnolias are native to the southeastern United States from North Carolina to northern Florida. They grow wild in forests and wooded areas. The best places to see them are in parks and gardens where they thrive due to their mild climate and abundant rainfall. They are also commonly found as street trees in cities and suburbs across the country. Even though this is a common shrub, we seldom see them because most homeowners prefer other flowering plants that bloom year-round like roses or tulips.
Magnolias flower only once every several years but you can have cut flowers year-round by taking care of them properly once they flower. Hereג€™s how:

How Do You Preserve Magnolia Stems?

You can preserve these stems easily by putting them in a glass of water with a tablespoon of sugar. This simple step will keep the flowers fresh for several days. You can also put them in a vase filled with water and store them in the refrigerator.
#1) Keep cuttings from dying from wilt or molding
-Take care not to let wet leaves or soil sit on the plant’s surface for too long and allow it to dry out before watering again
-Keep plants away from sources of heat like windowsills or car interiors during warm weather
-Move your plants outside if they’re indoors most of the time and you live in an area with hot, humid summers
-Water your plants appropriately

How Do You Preserve Magnolia in Glycerin?

Glycerin is an important ingredient in preserving flowers. It prevents dehydration and helps the flower’s color and fragrance last longer.

Dissolve one cup of granulated sugar into one pint of boiling water. This is enough for four to six big magnolia blossoms or 50-75 small flowers.
Add 1/8 teaspoon of glycerin to each quart of pure water, then add the flowers to the solution and let them sit overnight.
The next day, put a lid on the jar, cover it with a cloth, and place it in a cool, dark place like a closet for about two weeks. When you’re ready to take them out, open the jar back up and carefully drain off the liquid from inside with forceps. Wash your flowers gently in running water before arranging them in a vase or bouquet.
The glycerin will have preserved your flowers beautifully!

How Do You Dry a Magnolia Flower?

To dry a magnolia flower, you’ll need to cut off the stem and place the flower in a glass of water. Leave the flower there for about five hours. If you leave it overnight, you’ll have to change the water every couple of hours.
After it dries out, you can store your flowers in an airtight container to preserve them and use them as fresh bouquets or arrangements.
If your plant starts to wilt again from old age, just cut off all the leaves and plant the remains in a pot with fresh soil. The roots will take care of new growth.
To help keep your plants healthy and beautiful year-round, give them plenty of light and allow their leaves to breathe by giving them some space between leaves so they can grow properly.

Can You Preserve a Magnolia Bloom?

If you want to preserve a magnolia flower, youג€™re in luck because you can! You can keep the plant alive by taking care of it. First, take away any dead flowers or leaves from the plant. Next, water it out thoroughly and feed it with a liquid fertilizer once each week to replenish nutrients. Keep the plant in an area with filtered light and keep the soil moist but not wet. Finally, place the plant in a cool, humid location that is shaded from direct sunlight.
Magollia plants prefer to have moist soil and high humidity levels so they will produce blooms more often. They also need sufficient lighting for their flowers to grow correctly so make sure your plants are getting enough sunlight and humidity.
You can also buy preserved magnolias at florists around your area if preserving them yourself isnג€™t possible or desirable.
